What EXACTLY is Social Media Marketing?

Do you ever wonder why companies find it necessary to track the data of today's rapidly-growing social networks? It's because the success of these businesses partially depends on the marketing productivity of the social media accounts.
The history of social media is argued to have emerged at different points in history. Some consider media to have been a social entity as early as the time when the telegraph was in use. Others considered the use of a telephone to be "social" media because of the direct, person-to-person interaction. More widely-accepted understandings of how media became social include the early use of radio and television to communicate news to the public.
As the internet and its wide array of uses expanded over time, social media evolved. Soon, businesses started to take notice of how individual users of social media connected with their companies and products in a one-sided conversation via their personal social media accounts. This opened the door to engage in the conversation, and even push their own agendas.
Unfortunately for these companies, this task does not come easily. Each company has to customize its own niche for how to appeal to potential customers, retain existing customers to encourage loyalty, and connect with customers across various cultures.
These techniques will be examined and discussed in future posts for your enjoyment, review, and critique.
